You might get really lucky and you get through the next five years pretty stress free. However if you are still worried, or you already have a teenager and things aren’t going so well then try some of these to help you both get through it in one piece.
Accept They Are Growing Up - This usually means giving them more freedom to find out who they are. Your naturally instincts will probably be telling your to enforce strict rules to keep them from underage drinking, sex and doing drugs. However don’t be too strict, it could backfire. Comprise and lay down some ground rules.
If they want to go to a party let them, as long as they have done all their homework or helped with the housework. Drop them off and perhaps offer to pick them up if their not planning on staying over at a friends.
Understanding - Part growing up means wanting to spend more time with your friends and less time with your parents. It don’t mean they don’t love you any more so try not to feel hurt. Love And Support.
Just because your child is growing up doesn’t mean they no longer need love a support from their parents. If they struggle in certain subject offer to help them with their homework. This part of parenthood doesn’t end in primary school. Suggest a family night once a week to help keep you close.
